About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Neuroscience discovery programs based on high-quality experimental data that incorporates approaches addressing the relationship between lipid dyshomeostasis and pathology in neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Advance our understanding of the role of lipid metabolism on the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders using complex in vitro and in vivo model systems and translate this knowledge to provide evidence of efficacy.
  • Drive innovation to identify novel potential therapeutic targets of underlying disease mechanisms resulting in the progression of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Formulates and/or leads novel projects with multidisciplinary teams, and/or enables matrix collaboration on projects/technologies to achieve creative results for impact on Neuroscience goals.
  • Lead a team of scientists to support new therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Provide expert input into understanding the genetics and biology of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Establish priorities and target dates to enable data-driven advancements in portfolio and/or platform projects.
  • Manage, mentor, train and empower associates to ensure technical growth, development, compliant data documentation, and high impact deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or related field and 5+ years of pharm/biotech experience
  • Deep biological knowledge of neurodegeneration, lipid biology and APOE including mechanisms of disease progression and core drivers of disease.
  • Expertise in complex in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo model systems that leverages cell biological, molecular and/or anatomical approaches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity.
  • Previous leadership experience managing a team.
  • Ability to drive data-based decisions involving internal and external stakeholders so as to deliver on organizational goals.
  • Aptitude to work in a matrix structure and multidisciplinary teams with cross-functional members from Biomedical Research and Development.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain talent.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $138,400 - $257,000 /year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
